About Kanzu Washing Station
Kanzu’s coffees come from the Nyamasheke region in South Central Lake Kivu, where steep, lush mountains rise to nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. Dense forest cover creates a cool, misty microclimate that slows cherry maturation and helps shield the coffee from extreme weather.
Located just above Lake Kivu, Kanzu sits beneath the forested slopes overlooking the watershed and lake below. The combination of high elevation and unique climate plays a major role in the distinctive flavor development of these coffees. Cherries here tend to ripen later than in many other parts of Rwanda, making Kanzu’s harvest one of the last of the season.
Year after year, Kanzu’s exceptional microclimate, careful harvesting and processing, and strong sense of community produce coffees that keep us coming back.
